Easiest Ways to a Better Life
Let's not pretend it's easy to create a better life. Big changes
are difficult, but there are many easy steps in the process.
Isn't that where we should start? Why get overwhelmed? You wouldn't
expect to quit cigarettes, alcohol, caffeine and complaining
all at once, right? Just make things better today, however you
can. Seeing the results will give you the motivation for the
more difficult steps.
A Better Life Today
It's easy just to look, right? Start looking for specific
ways to make your life better, and to improve yourself. Even
if you don't accomplish anything immediately, you are preparing
yourself. Thinking about change sets your mind and your
motivation in motion.
You're not looking for an excuse to avoid difficult tasks,
but sometimes a problem seems overwhelming, and it's tough to
get started. You want to look for easy things to do, because
any action starts the process, and is better than nothing.
Consider the following simple actions, according to what you
want to change.
1. Take three deep breaths through your nose, whenever you
feel stressed. I'll show you a more powerful, and only slightly
more difficult technique in an upcoming issue. (And I'll explain
why you should breath through your nose.)
2. Write down a few things you'd like to change about yourself.
This just makes the possibility more real, and gets your mind
working.
3. If you want to work on your relationships, start today
with a quick note to someone you love. It will take you five
minutes.
4. If you want to lose weight, do anything towards that goal
today. Skip a snack, park further away from store, use stairs
instead of elevators. (A dozen small and easy changes may be
all you need.)
5. Whenever you are angry, take three deep breaths and count
to ten before you say anything.
6. Take a walk. It clears the mind, relaxes you, and is good
exercise.
7. Think of all the good things you've got. This may seem
silly, but it really can affect your frame of mind, and a good
mood makes everything a little easier. A written list is a good
idea too, and only a bit more effort.
I could go on and on, and I will in future issues. The point
here is to get you thinking, and then taking whatever actions
you can. If you thought about the whole process, you might never
build a house, but it's easy to nail one board in place, right?
(And then one more, and one more...)
